June 17-Farrell MT. project

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

BMAC trailwork update! June 17 & 18th.

If anyone is riding on Farrell's MT., ride with caution. Jerry will be working the backside of the MT. (west side) to make a better trail down.
On the 18th, he will be installing a 3' x 20' culvert on the east side of Farrell's MT. All this will be done with a 8800 lb. excavator, so you should have no problem spotting him. lol. Stop and give him a hand if he needs it.
He's planning on having all necessary work done for a great safe trail for the weekend. Big thank you to VASA for their support

Important news from our sister club WRASC!! This trail they have signed permission for is a connect to our BMAC trail system!!!!

From Sherry Smith, Sec. of WRASC;

The West Rutland ATV Sportsman's Club will be working on the old suspention bridge on the six mile loop on our newly recontracted trails in Poultney/Castleton area. Some older members of our club may remember riding this area when we used to ride here. We need some volunteers to help pull off the old boards and plance in the new ones. We also have fabricated a trailer to pull behind the atv to haul in our lumber but may need help loading and unloading this. Tools needed are battery power drills with reg/hex/& star bits depending on what we can get from screws. IF you have a reg. power cord drill we will have a small genorator to plug into also. Hammers and a small skill saw would help too. Bring a lunch. We will be meeting up around 9:30 am. Please give a lending hand. This is a larger project and we need at minimum 7-10 people that can help get the job done fast and efficiently.

Directions to location of the work area are:
From Poultney area - Hampshire Hollow Rd to Ames Hollow Rd. once your going up Ames Hollow you will come to a clearing and there will be other trucks parked there. Take atv to the road to the right to get to the bridge. It is a couple of miles and you will see VASA signs.

From Birdseye Rd. you drive to the end where the yellow gate used to be and you can park. Go just to the left of the new culvert and there is a camp on the right. Go up road past the camp this is Ames Hollow Rd. You will come to a clearing and the road goes straight but the trail goes to the left. Go left and there are VASA signs. It is about 2 miles to the bridge.

Hope to see some of you there.

If you are on a Class 3 BMAC trail, please slow down!

At Sunday's monthly meeting the subject of speed on our Class 3 roads of Ira and West Rutland was addressed. The Officers and BoD have been advised that there have been complaints by residents who live on the town signed permission roads of excessive speed and dust by ATVers.

As of the June 13 meeting, the Officers and all members present passed a speed limit of 15 mph on BMAC's Class 3 signed permission roads which includes.

1-East Birdseye road when coming off the powerline and turning right proceeding south to the Class 4 that runs on the East side of Birdseye MT. There are horses pastured and family pets in this area.

2-Clark Hill heading towards Dwewy Ave. in West Rutland

3-All signed portions of West Rd. in Ira.

Please observe all VASA/BMAC signs which will be changed to 15 mph shortly and during dry conditions please be considerate of the amount of road dust being churned up, you could limit it to 10 mph. This is a pretty section of VT back roads. Take it slow and look around :)

Also, be advised according to town rules, you must be 16 years old to operate an ATV on Ira and West Rutland Class 3 & 4 roads. Which means you must be 16 if you leave the private lands of landowners of Birdseye MT. which is Davis & Notte (Castleton) and also Farrell and Sheloski's lands in Ira.
BMAC trails will be observed and patrolled by law enforcement to enforce that you must be a member of VASA on these trails and the Town's requirements for ATVers, current registration, VASA member, helmets, insurance.

Roy & Dave R. ran the trails this Sat. and cleared trees/branches. Met up with Heidi &Kevin and showed them the trails.

Heidi commented on Facebook her thanks for them showing them the BMAC trails. Do you really think they minded to stop working and showing them our BMAC trails??? :)

Monday the new "loop" ride on our newly signed permission trails from the Town of West Rutland was worked downed tree wise and waterbar cleared. This will take you to the top of the "banana peal" trail which we now have signed permission for from the Town of Ira.
We also found the "little cabin in the woods". ;)
